Privacy Policy
FairShare, operated by Yellow Rock. Last updated 7 August 2026.
FairShare is a budgeting app for households. This policy explains what it stores, why, who else can see it, and how to get rid of it. It covers the FairShare mobile app and this website.
What we collect
Your account
You sign in with Google. From that we receive and store your name, email address, profile picture URL and a Google account identifier. We never see or store your Google password.
What you put in the app
- Expenses: amount, currency, category, description, date and who paid.
- Bills: name, amount, due date and payment status.
- Savings goals, their targets and their progress.
- Incomes and split settings, which are used to work out a fair split.
- Group membership, group names and invite codes.
- An activity log of the above, and answers to in-app check-in prompts.
Technical data
- A push notification token for your device, so other members of your group can nudge you. Stored inside your group, readable only by that group.
- Crash and diagnostic information generated by Google Firebase in the ordinary course of running the app.
FairShare does not ask for or store bank credentials, card numbers or account numbers, and it is not connected to your bank. Every figure in the app is one that somebody typed in.
Why we hold it
Solely to provide the app: to show your household its budget, to calculate splits and balances, and to sync that between the people in your group. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to profile or target you.
Who can see it
- The people in your group. FairShare is a shared budget. Anyone in a group with you sees that group's expenses, bills, goals, balances, split settings — including the income figures the split is based on — and your name and profile picture. Do not join a group with someone you would not show that to.
- Our service providers, listed below, who process data on our behalf.
- Nobody else, unless we are legally required to disclose it.
Service providers
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Hosting, App Distribution) — sign-in, data storage and sync. Firebase privacy.
- Expo — app builds, over-the-air updates and the push notification relay. A nudge sends your device's push token and the text of the notification to Expo's push service. Expo privacy.
- open.er-api.com — exchange rates, when you log an expense in a currency other than your group's. The app requests a rate table for a currency; it sends no personal data and no amounts.
Where it is stored
Data is held in Google Firebase and may be processed on Google servers outside the UK and EEA, under the safeguards Google applies to international transfers.
How long we keep it
Your data stays until you delete it. Deleting an expense, bill or goal removes it. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove your user record and personal details. Note that entries you made in a shared group remain part of that group's history for the other members — the household's ledger would not otherwise add up — though they are no longer linked to a live account.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, or ask for it in a portable form. Email hello@yellowrock.co.uk and we will respond within one month. If you think we have got it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
FairShare is not intended for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
This website
These pages set no cookies and run no analytics. Our host keeps ordinary server request logs.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
